<p>The general objective of this project is to empower womenbelow poverty line &amp; girls with disability through programmescovering areas of: 1) Improve the educational levels ofwomen with disability &amp; women below poverty line. 2)Toempower the life, working conditions and lively hood opportunities for women in urban slums. 3) Development of science to reach the target population, addressing the need of good health &amp; nutrition. 4) Workshops &amp; interactive programs on education, vocational skill development through performing arts, health and nutrition.</p>

<p>Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind (SRMAB) initiated an urban slum and community based rehabilitation programs in 1985 focusing on health, education and livelihood empowerment. But reaching out to a larger audience required huge human resource. This was the point when Community Radio as a powerful tool for people was introduced to us and later followed by visits of experts and field support of VOICES.&nbsp;</p>

Ramana Dwani @90.4 MHz broadcasts its programmes for eight hours daily from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

<p>Signature Programme: Bhajans by visually challenged students Community Participation: Health programs produced in consultation with &lsquo;municipal hospitals&rsquo; related to local health issues. Other NGO such as Family Planning Association of Indi with community people from Christ University and the Banaswadi Slum programsare the sources of content creation. We plan to ensure 80 per cent community participation.</p>

<p>The Radio Station is presently self-funded. Initial funding for equipment purchased through WEBEL came from donors. Due to repeated technical problems, the Radio Station is now supported by the Department of Information and BECIL. Work on technical up-gradation was taken up during December, 2012.</p>

<p>The story of Kumar, a severely disabled young man was portrayed through a Community Radio programme by SRMAB. This story was also broadcastover All India Radio and it generated considerable thinking and discussionwithin the larger community. Among other things, it enabled Kumar start a livelihood. Several otherspeople with disability like Kumar have pledged their support to the Community Radio Station.&nbsp;</p>
