Sisrsa municipal councillor planning (Hindi)

In this episode, Sirsa Municipal Council Chairman, Mr. Suresh Kukku, is our guest. The host is Virender Singh Chauhan, Station Director of Radio Sirsa. He was invited to interact with listeners as a part of the series in which all the municipal councillors are proposed to come and respond to the questions of listeners regarding their plans for their respective wards in the Municipal Council. While sharing his vision and plans for next five years, the Council chief Mr. Kukku tries to answer a volley of questions from the listeners. As is evident in this audio clip, the issues raised by the listeners include the poor sanitation scenario, the overflowing sewerage system in some parts of the town, the out of order street light and improper garbage disposal arrangements. The issue of stray cattle and especially the cows that constitute one of the biggest traffic hazards in Sirsa is also vociferrously raised in this particular episode. Listeners not only ask questions but they also propose and suggest probable solutions to some of these issues of collective-concern.
On his part, the guest makes some promises, tries to clear some doubts and ensure immediate action in some matters. He also expresses his willingness to stay in touch with the residents through the platform provided by Hello Sirsa.

Mission & Vission

<p>Radio Sirsa strives to empower its listeners on a wide range of issues that include health, environment, education, women and child development, panchayati raj and agriculture. Radio Sirsa promotes voluntary blood donation in its coverage area and also works for promotion and conservation of local dialects, culture, folk arts involving artists from the local community.</p>

Genesis

<p>The Community Radio policy guidelines of the Government of India provide for educational institutions to own and run Community Radio Stations. A Community Radio Station can be a very effective tool for hands on training of would-be media-professionals.</p> <p>The teaching staff of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in the Chaudhary Devi Lal University thought of a Community Radio Station as a good tool for the benefit of its students while simultaneously serving the local community as envisaged in the policy document.</p>

Programme

<p>Signature Programme: Hello Sirsa, Mhara Haryana, Jhanjhar Chhanke. Community Participation: Most of Radio Sirsa programs are phone-in programs. Our presenters include members of local community including housewives, shopkeepers and farmers. Field interviews are also integral part of several programs. Innovations in format: A phone-in program of Sarayaki, a dialect of Punjabi spoken in parts of Pakistani Punjab has been initiated for people who migrated following partition and brought this dialect with them. The dialect is on the verge of extinction in this region as the generation that brought it here is on its last legs.</p>

Partnership & Funding

<p>Funding and Partnerships: Funds for infrastructure and procurement of technical items were provided as a one-time fund by the university while funds for day-to-day running of the Radio Station come from the University&rsquo;s internal resources.</p>

<p><strong>Success Stories</strong></p> <p>Being first radio station to broadcast in the district, Radio Sirsa has revived radio as a medium of edutainment in its coverage area. Radio-enthusiasts among the listeners have formed Samudayik Radio Shrota Sangh, a forum that actively contributes in making the programmes of radio more and more people oriented. Radio Sirsa as a CRS is using Internet extensively in various ways.</p> <p>The outreach of the programmes to the non-resident Haryana people has been possible through podcasting of selected programmes through the Internet.<br /><br />Its selected programmes are available on www.jansanchaar.com and www.hellosirsa.mypodcast.com. The same can be subscribed by Internet users using the feed www.hellosirsa.mypodcast.com/rss.xml.</p> <p>Apart from functioning as a powerful tool for training of would be media-professionals, it is successfully re-orienting them towards issues of development, preservation of local culture. Team

<p><strong>Core Team:</strong><br />The station is being run by teachers and students of journalism and mass communication in active collaboration with the local community. Presenters come from various sections of society as volunteers and the chairperson of the journalism and mass communication department is also the station director.
