Kalpakkam Community Radio Station broadcasts every day a 15-minute program in the Music Segment titled: Mellisai. This program provides an opportunity for the local community to present their talent in music in the areas of Classical: Carnatic/Hindustani (Vocal  and Instrumental), Semi Classical and Light Music.

This edition (Part 4 of 4) presents a Carnatic Vocal recital by a budding singer: Kum. S. Amrutha in 4 parts. She is a student from our Community pursuing her M.Tech in Chem. Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur.

Kalpakkam Community Radio Station has a daily 15-20 minute segment for Agriculture based programmes for the local Community. Agriculture is the dominant profession in the surrounding villages of Kalpakkam. This program is an interview with Smt. Sabitha Balaji, an avowed Woman Organic Farmer, by Dr. P. Sasidhar, Station Director, Kalpakkam Community Radio Station. This program is an attempt to highlight a successful 'Woman Achiever' in our Community.

<p>Themain aim of Kalpakkam Community Radio Station is to reach the community at the grassroots through radio programmes. Our vision is to increase radio audience to the fullest and combat the penetration of cable television by creating change in the community through our community programmes which are beneficial for them.</p>

<p>Community Radio was brought to Kalpakkam under the Atomic Energy Education Society (AEES),which runs all the schools in the Atomic Energy townships around the country. The aim was to provide quality programmes to the community living around Kalpakkam. It was also envisaged as a means to announce emergency alerts due to natural calamities for the community at Kalpakkam.</p>

Kalpakkam Community Radio @90.8 MHz broadcasts for six hours daily in three broadcast slots in the morning, mid-day and evening schedules, between 6:00 am – 8:00 am; 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm respectively. We have two hours of orginal programming and two times repeats are broadcast each day.

Mellisai Song and Instrumental Production of Music programmes by the local talent in Classical and Semi Classical genre.

<p>Signature Programmes: GramamPoovom, Nalamthana ,VelaiVaippuThagavalgal Community Participation: After a drive where sun filters were distributed, the radio station conducted four hours of live programmes clarifying questions about it asked by the community. The radio station has also conducted a drive for local fishermen on sea weed, which is important for the community&rsquo;s livelihood. Innovations in Format: As a part of content sharing, Kalpakkam Community Radio has partnered with Employment News with the MOIB to translate and provide employment news information in the local language. The content created is verified and also approved by the MOIB. We&rsquo;ve also made new transmission software in which all the local RJs are trained in.</p>

<p>Funding and Partnerships The station was started as a part of a neighbourhood welfare development activity at Kalpakkam and sufficient funds have been earmarked for operation and maintenance of KCRS. The operations and maintenance of KCRS are met as part of the neighbourhood welfare development scheme.</p>

<p>The recent launch of Employment News in the local language created a big impact in the community. This turned out to be a viable solution to ensure employment news information reached the grass roots and help people in the community choose and plan their careers accordingly.</p>
