Bol Hyderabad, a community radio run by Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad airs content on the competitive examinations besides holding discussions and debates on the topics by bringing in academicians.

Bol Hyderabad, a community radio based in the Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad airs content on the competitive examinations besides holding discussions and debates on the topics by bringing in academicians.

Bol Hyderabad which has transmission reach of 15 km from the university has diversified community with civil servants, educationists, IT professionals, scholars and residents. As the radio is stationed in the department, it gives opportunity for students to get practical knowledge and earn a small stipend.

K Sahitya Divya, who used to do live shows for Bol Hyderabad said, “Working for Bol Hyderabad was fun and at the same time a great learning experience. Handling the whole show was something I was doing for the first time. Unlike commercial radio that we frequently encounter, community radio station has lot more things to offer.”

Not just content on education, the community radio engages its listeners by airing entertainment shows. The radio’s schedule includes a wide variety of programmes such as Caught in Passing, Becoming Indians, Founder Gyan and Raaga – the voice hunt, which is an annual singing competition. In fact, the station receives SMS requesting to play music, however, it plays old music which doesn’t come under copyright.

It’s more educative, engaging and entertaining at the same time, said Sahitya, the radio jockey.
