Volunteers at CGnet Swara
CGnet Swara, a voice-based portal which is accessible via mobile-phone and allows anyone to report and listen to stories of local interest is looking for volunteers to help with verification and moderation of the stories.

Some of you already know about CGnet Swara technology and the excellent work they have been doing in Chhattisgarh. CGNet Swara is a voice-based portal, freely accessible via mobile phone, that allows anyone to report and listen to stories of local interest. Reported stories are verified and moderated by journalists and become available for playback online as well as over phone. Here are some impact stories.

We are now getting this platform to the Tribal areas of Andhra Pradesh with a local AP number. This is for sharing stories on indigenous knowledge, culture, demanding tribal rights, dalit rights, better wages and work conditions, reporting problems with health, agriculture, administration, etc. We are soon holding workshops for tribal youth from various districts in AP starting with Khammam, to become citizen journalists.

We are looking for:

Volunteers to help with verification, moderation of the stories, translating from Telugu to English and following up the stories so that some effective action is taken.

Requirements to Volunteer:

  • Time commitment - 2 to 5 hrs a week.
  • Location - Anywhere in the world.
  • Languages - Telugu (Essential), Koya, English and Hindi (Preferred)

The basic operative principle behind the project is to ensure community ownership on communication channels for the tribal areas, support rural journalists and promote tribal leadership through this platform.
